MJM Welcomes Ellen Jespersen

MJM is growing, and this month we are excited to welcome Ellen Jespersen to our creative and account teams! From newspaper and TV journalism to world travel to working with small businesses and cause-based organizations, Ellen’s colleagues have consistently noted her ability to “Ellenize” any project — organizing it, infusing it with creativity, and giving it purpose and focus.

Specifically, she’s owned her own company, building websites and providing strategic directions to start-ups. She’s led the rebrand for two faith-based organizations and spent five years as the communications director for one of them. Most recently, she spearheaded the marketing efforts for both a chocolate company (yum!) and an engineering firm, becoming part social media expert and part proposal pro in the process.

There’s much more to know about her professional qualifications, but with those basics taken care of, we can move on to introducing you to the Ellen we all get to know around the office.

Here, in her own words, are a few of her highlights.

We know family is important to you. Tell us about yours.

I’ve been married to Chuck, aka Charlie, for 15 years but we’ve been friends even longer, beginning when we were both at the University of South Dakota. Together, we have two teenage girls and two elementary-age boys. Our home is rarely quiet but it’s a lot of fun!

What is your favorite band or type of music?

My husband is the true DJ of the family, but I enjoy a variety of music — usually depending on what I’m doing. Cleaning the house? Jackson 5 and Stevie Wonder. Friday or Saturday night? Jazz music or World Café on NPR. I’m a long-time fan of Sara Groves too.

How about books?

I love reading! I’ve always been an avid reader. A couple books I’ve been reading lately are Joyful: The Surprising Power of Ordinary Things to Create Extraordinary Happiness and 4,000 Weeks: Time Management for Mortals.

Do you have a secret talent?

Well, I don’t know if it’s a secret talent, but on the topic of books, I can recommend a great children’s book for any age, interest, or topic. My kids can vouch that we’ve enjoyed reading some incredible stories together over the years.

What’s your dream vacation location?

I love to travel! Right now, my dream vacation would be going to Washington DC and New York City with my family. There’s so much history and culture to explore there. Also, my kids need to ride a subway at some point.

Do you have any possessions that are meaningful to you?

I try to be a minimalist with most possessions, but I love to collect and decorate with things that are meaningful in my family history. I have original art pieces created by all my grandparents. I also have typewriters that belonged to both of my grandmothers. They were both educated and professional during a time when that was more challenging for women. I love having a connection to that strength in them.

Finally, what makes you most excited about working at MJM?

I joined MJM because it’s a great team that is excellent at what they do. There is great synergy and authenticity in the work, and they are focused on listening to clients and giving them great work every day. MJM matches my “why” and I’m excited to join the team!

We’re so glad you chose MJM, Ellen! Welcome to the team. If you get to work with her as a client, we can’t wait for you to see her skills level up your projects…and make your lives easier in the process!
